TOP STORY
💎 Sketch releases “Athens”

This week, Sketch released "Athens," their largest update ever, introducing "Stacks," their long-awaited auto layout feature that lets designers create flexible, adaptable layouts that automatically adjust as content changes.
The release brings Sketch up to speed with modern design tool capabilities that competitors have had for years.

How it works: Simply select layers and press Cmd/Ctrl + L to create a stack—Sketch automatically applies the most logical layout settings based on your layer arrangement.
Examples of what you can build with Stacks:
Smart buttons that grow and shrink based on text length
Complex nested layouts that adapt to different screen sizes
Modal dialogs with consistent spacing that adjust to content length
Any UI component that needs to be responsive and maintainable

In addition to “Stacks,” Sketch also released the following updates:
Frames (replacing Artboards) for UI design that can be nested, styled, and work with Stacks.
Graphics for icons and illustrations with fixed proportional sizing and a focused inspector.
The new Command Bar allows you to insert and swap components directly from the Command Bar using shortcuts like Y for Symbols and ⌃T for Text Styles.
There are 100+ other refinements across workflows, styling, and productivity features, as apart of this update.
Why it matters: This release is critical for Sketch's survival in the design tool wars.
Once the industry standard for UI design, Sketch has watched competitors like Figma and Framer rapidly outpace them by shipping advanced layout systems, real-time collaboration, and web-based accessibility.
While Sketch remained a desktop-only tool with basic Smart Layout functionality, designers migrated to platforms offering auto layout, component systems, and seamless team workflows.

🔥 Black Forest Labs releases “FLUX.1 Kontex”

This week, Black Forest Labs released "FLUX.1 Kontext," a new AI image model that excels at maintaining character consistency across different scenes — addressing a major challenge that many AI models struggle with.
The models are available through partners including KREA AI, Freepik, Leonardo AI, and more, available in private beta.

left: input image; middle: edit from input: “tilt her head towards the camera”, right: “make her laugh”
What makes Kontext special:
✅ Character consistency: Preserve unique elements like reference characters or objects across multiple scenes and environments
🖼 Local editing: Make targeted modifications to specific parts of an image without affecting other areas
🎨 Style reference: Generate new scenes while maintaining unique styles from reference images
⚡ Interactive speed: Iterate with minimal latency, up to 8x faster than current leading models

Unlike traditional text-to-image models that only work with text prompts, Kontext enables true in-context generation and editing.
This means you can modify existing images with simple text instructions, preserve character consistency across different scenes, and make targeted edits without affecting the rest of the image.
